Dear Friends, I agree with what you said about the DAR and the LDS archives. I was just running through the basic stuff with a friend who is thinking about doing genealogy. First thing I said was to beware of the info in the Family History files which are solely submitted by family members. I understand that the Mormons have another archive which has been "proofed" or some such which is more reliable. Much information is wrong, but I use it as a general guide, always being careful to back it up with as much primary source documentation that I can. Beginners in genealogy have to be warned, because for years, genealogy was done mostly by amateurs who took "Aunt Bertie's little list" as gospel and submitted it to all these archives, with the resulting mess we have today, trying to tease out solid evidence from family myth and tradition. Now I'm off my rant! Charlotte Rigg Nugent
