Hal: Do you have any info on R.E. (aka Jake) Posey, George Malone Posey or Hayden Posey. Born in or around Williamson County, TN in the 1870's? They moved to Obion County with the William Harrison H. Gatlin family after their parents died in 1884. Can't find out anything about these three. Oh, they did have a distance cousin named Bonner Posey who also lived in Obion County. His will was there in 1782. That is all I have on this Allison. Could he be the grandfather of Allison Posey who you say was born ca. 1816 in KY? Your Allison was age 43 on the 1860 census of Brazos Co., TX He died at age 65, was a married farmer. (wife Octavia C.died at age 59 in Dec. 1879. Both died of dysentery according to Dr. Edge, their attending physician. According to a note made by the Mortality Schedule enumerator, they died of want and inattention. He said they were worn out, the old man was very intemperate; they were very poor and trifling; they had several grown sons & diaughters. This may be more than you ever wanted to know about your ancestors, or maybe you already know it. This is what I found when I was reading the Mortality Schedule of the 1880 census of Brazos Co., TX. You will notice that these ages and dates don't agree. But over the years of reading hundreds of census listings, I have learned that you can't expect it to be exactly correct. Maybe they didn't know how old they were. Maybe they weren't at home and a child guessed at their age. You may never know. The remarks on the Mortality Schedule are of course the opinion of the Enumerator. You don't often find something like this.
