Robert H. POSEY a.k.a. Posey International published ca. 1987 "The Descendants of Francis Posey (1615) Through his Son: Benjamin Posey (1648)" Although this book uses the spelling POSCHET for Francis, and states he was born 1615 in Voyaux, Cambrai, France, on page 3 he states: "In conversing with a professional genealogist, heraldry and lineage specialist, William Ward, who is also a descendant of Francis Posey through his son Benjamin, it was mentioned, to the author of this book, that as of 1985, no one has submitted full documentation to the Huguenot Society on the Francis Posey line, declaring its Huguenot connection. Nor has Bill seen any evidence to clearly state that Martryn is Francis Posey's father." His book recites the old belief that Benjamin was born 1648, and the son of Francis, rather than correctly as Benjamin being a son of John, and grandson of Francis. While he notes that Benjamin's wife Mary was the widow of Nicholas BELAINE he fails to account for her earlier marriage in his listing of children of Benjamin and Mary. Mary had two children, Jemima BELAINE born 15 Mar. 1686 (1686/7?) and Elizabeth BELAINE born 25 Feb. 1688 (1688/9?). He then lists the children of Benjamin and Mary as: 1. John 1682 2. Benjamin 1685 3. Belaine 1688 4. Susanna 1 June 1691 5. Mary 10 Sep. 1693 6. Francis 1702 These, or similar dates appear for the children John, Benjamin, and Belaine all over the internet. Obviously, Mary could not have been having children by two different husbands (Nicholas BELAINE and Benjamin POSEY) at the same time in the 1680s. I can only assume these assigned births were attempts to make Benjamin's first children born closer in age to the 1648 birth commonly given for him. The first record of Benjamin is when he signed a petition in 1689, and he was probably born ca. 1666-8. After the births of Mary's children Jemima and Elizabeth BELAINE, it would appear her first husband died and she married Benjamin POSEY ca. 1690. The births of Susanna and Mary are recorded in 1691 and 1693. It is about this time that births stopped being recorded in the Charles County Court records. John was clearly Benjamin's eldest son, as he inherited the land, suggesting a birth of ca. 1695. Benjamin and Belaine were probably born ca. 1697 and 1699. Francis was age 70 in a 1772 deposition.
