Dear Friends, The Fairfax bunch are probably the Cpt. John Posey and the John Price Posey who are living in Fairfax during the Rev. Period. They are the ones that the famous General Thomas Posey descends from. John Price may be Thomas's brother, Cpt. John Posey definately his father. And the Thomas Posey in Augusta County, VA is Gen. Posey. Don't know whether he was a general yet, but he lived there before going on to KY and VA and finally Indiana and Illinois to die in Shawneetown, Illinois about 1818. He was buried in the "Old" Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown. He had been the Indian agent there just before he died. Before that Governor of KY and then Indiana. Posey County in southwestern Illinois is named after him. There is a good book about this bunch of Posey's by a Posey (can't remember the first name off the top of my head, but all good genealogy collections should have it. It is called "General Thomas Posey" or something like that. I had occasion to research the Fairfax County Posey's in line with my research of my Rigg family who (I think) followed them from Charles County, MD to Fairfax County, VA about the time of the Rev. War. Cpt. John Posey was successful there in politics and a buddy of George Washington for a while. Later, when Posey's debts mounted, Old George claimed all of his property for a "song", namely Dogue Run, at the southern part of what is now the Mount Vernon properties. I have a great article called the "Improvident Ferryman of Mount Vernon: Cpt. John Posey" for anyone interested. Charlotte Rigg Nugent

Do you need my snail mail address? Many years ago when I was beginning genealogical research, I was reading census for Posey Co., IN (I think you meant to say Indiana instead of Illinois). My husband's Whipple family lived in Posey Co., IN. An older lady who was also reading census told me that she originally came from Posey Co., IN, and that "everyone" there knew that Gen. Posey, for whom the county was named, was really the son of George Washington. Since then I have seen that in print on several occasions, but does anyone really know? Thanks.
