Seriously, I have read a couple of versions. The most plausible is that he was the child of George and a barmaid in town. The posey's were friends and George took the child to them for them to raise. Don't guess Martha would have taken to the little guy. At any rate, when John Posey bankrupt, George educated Thomas and his sister. The other version has him the son of George and John's wife.
