    2. "Cavaliers and Pioneers; Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants"by Nell Marion Nugent (Virginia State Library System, Richmond 1996 for the latest edition) has the headrights information you are seeking if you are trying to learn who else Wm Ferrar brought over to Virginia from England. (I've seen the listing, I just did not copy the whole thing down). The closest copy to me is in the library in Santa Rosa, 65 miles away, and I'm not going there any time soon. The four part book is found in many basic genealogical libraries and I have seen it at the Hawaii State Library, Allen County (Indiana) Library, Santa Rosa (CA) Public Library, Sutro Library in San Francisco, and the DAR Library in Washington DC. The LDS library probably has it on microfilm as it is a very basic VA genealogical text. I'm sure the Ferrar headrights information is in the first volume and the books are all well indexed. I have not found the book on-line for perusal but that's not surprising as it is absolutely jam packed with names in very tiny printing! Michelle Ule Robertule@aol.com Ukiah, CA

    2. Rita, are you aware of the artist William Posey Silva of Savannah GA? I was looking for a portrait of a Posey in the Telfair Museum there and was told to check him out. His dates are 1859-1948. I have more information from the article on him that tells about his paintings, if you're interested. Sharon Posey Smith

    3. Posted on: Posey Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Posey?read=123 Surname: Posey ------------------------- There are no records of Francis POSEY going by either the name Francois or POSCHET. You omitted one generation in your listing. The Benjamin you list as died 1715 was a son of John, and grandson of Francis. This Benjamin was NOT born ca. 1648 as commonly given. There are no records of Benjamin before 1689, and he was probably born ca. 1668. I have not followed your line beyond Bennett, son of Benjamin. See more details at my site below. 2. I found "American Colonists in English Records" 1st series by Geo. Sherwood, 210, Stroud (?) W.C. 2 London Eng. 1932 Which mentions William Ferrar and a comment he made as to some people being indebted to him for passage I believe. I just did not have time to note it or copy it. could possibly call the library in Savannah and ask about it. I was looking for a Posey/Possey etc among the listings of passengers on ships from Eng dating from 1636 on.

    1. [POSEY-L] Posey, Robert H. book a.k.a. Posey International
    2. Fredric Z. Saunders
    3. Robert H. POSEY a.k.a. Posey International published ca. 1987 "The Descendants of Francis Posey (1615) Through his Son: Benjamin Posey (1648)" Although this book uses the spelling POSCHET for Francis, and states he was born 1615 in Voyaux, Cambrai, France, on page 3 he states: "In conversing with a professional genealogist, heraldry and lineage specialist, William Ward, who is also a descendant of Francis Posey through his son Benjamin, it was mentioned, to the author of this book, that as of 1985, no one has submitted full documentation to the Huguenot Society on the Francis Posey line, declaring its Huguenot connection. Nor has Bill seen any evidence to clearly state that Martryn is Francis Posey's father." His book recites the old belief that Benjamin was born 1648, and the son of Francis, rather than correctly as Benjamin being a son of John, and grandson of Francis. While he notes that Benjamin's wife Mary was the widow of Nicholas BELAINE he fails to account for her earlier marriage in his listing of children of Benjamin and Mary. Mary had two children, Jemima BELAINE born 15 Mar. 1686 (1686/7?) and Elizabeth BELAINE born 25 Feb. 1688 (1688/9?). He then lists the children of Benjamin and Mary as: 1. John 1682 2. Benjamin 1685 3. Belaine 1688 4. Susanna 1 June 1691 5. Mary 10 Sep. 1693 6. Francis 1702 These, or similar dates appear for the children John, Benjamin, and Belaine all over the internet. Obviously, Mary could not have been having children by two different husbands (Nicholas BELAINE and Benjamin POSEY) at the same time in the 1680s. I can only assume these assigned births were attempts to make Benjamin's first children born closer in age to the 1648 birth commonly given for him. The first record of Benjamin is when he signed a petition in 1689, and he was probably born ca. 1666-8. After the births of Mary's children Jemima and Elizabeth BELAINE, it would appear her first husband died and she married Benjamin POSEY ca. 1690. The births of Susanna and Mary are recorded in 1691 and 1693. It is about this time that births stopped being recorded in the Charles County Court records. John was clearly Benjamin's eldest son, as he inherited the land, suggesting a birth of ca. 1695. Benjamin and Belaine were probably born ca. 1697 and 1699. Francis was age 70 in a 1772 deposition.
