    2. Hi Rick.....Did they offer to let you join? I was surprised to find that you can only join if you have ancestors who were Huguenots...Very interesting. I enjoyed reading their history, and you are right. There is no way to know if this is has any backing. They are surely a slippery lot - those Poseys. Ginnie

    2. Michael Allison
    3. Rick, You make some excellent points! As you may know, you and I have a common cousin who is a member of the Huguenot Society based on her descent from the "alleged Huguenot" Francis Posey. Even she readily admits that she offered absolutely nothing in the way of concrete proof to the society -- and still got in! Membership in this society is proof of one thing and one thing only -- that one does indeed belong to the society!<g>. Michael Allison "Fredric Z. Saunders" wrote: > I also wrote to the Huguenot Society some time ago. The "sources" they listed for Francis POSEY/POSHET were > 1. Source 1 has been discussed on this mail list several times about the lack of evidence for connecting Francis POSEY to be a POSHET/POSCHET or that he was from France. Also discussed has been the evidence showing that Francis did not have a son named Benjamin, as the Huguenot Society lists from the above sources. > > Looking at the page they sent me and the "sources" given for other "Huguenots" that were listed on the same page as Francis POSEY, I notice a lack of any original records being cited. 3. I also wrote to the Huguenot Society some time ago. The "sources" they listed for Francis POSEY/POSHET were 1. Wilford Jordan "Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania" Volume IV, (New York, 1932) 2. ,"The History of the Posey Family in Europe and the United States, nd. 3. Lloyd Franklin Posey and Betty Sue Drake "The Posey Family in America" (Hattiesburg, MS, 1971) 4. , Posey, Wade, Harrison and Other Family Connections, nd. As sources 2-4 cite back to source 1, as their source, they cannot really be counted as "sources" showing Francis POSEY was a POSHET/POSCHET or from France. Almost every "source" listed for the other "Huguenots" on the page appears to be a published family history. Considering that the Huguenot Society fails to even list the authors or publication information for sources 2 and 4, both of which are readily available, it makes one wonder if they even checked any of the above "sources" they list to see if the claims in those "sources" appear valid. I wrote several months ago to the Huguenot Society pointing out that sources 2-4 only cite source 1, and that source 1 contains no evidence, and to date have not received a response from them.
