I am a Tennessee Posey and have some documents if you are interested. My line came from Indiana, I think but definitely through KY.

My question is: do you plan to publish your Posey research? If so, please add my name to your list of those interested in owning a copy. Thanks. Emma Gene Gentry hgentry@inetport.com "Fredric Z. I have been putting together what I have on the early POSEY family, dealing with only about the first 4-5 generations. Actually my paper is approaching this family from a different perspective, being the "Descendants of Elizabeth -?- wife of Francis POSEY, Nicholas BELAINE, and Alexander SMITH." Following the descendants she had by her three husbands gives a new perspective on the relationships between these families. I have been going back and reading the original of all records that are often quoted in both books on the POSEY family, and published Charles County records, and have found a number of discrepancies of what the original records actually say, as compared to what they have been abstracted in the above works as saying. There are a couple of key documents of which I would like to obtain photocopies, that the originals have not been microfilmed by the Family History Library. If there is someone in Maryland that would be willing to obtain photocopies of these, I will be glad to pay for the copy costs, and swap a like amount of time for any research you would like from any location from the FHL here in Salt Lake City. If interested, please contact me off list. Rick Saunders

Barbara, That's great information on Elizabeth Adair. I think she may turn out to be an aunt of my Elizabeth.........Thanks, Ed Kelley
Ed, I guess this doesn't answer your question , but in the on-line "George Washington Papers" (Library of Congress-American Memory Collection), the annotation under the 9Jun1769 entry says that (Capt.) John POSEY had just married Elizabeth ADAIR of Chestertown, MD. The April 1769 notes say that John's wife Martha (Price Harrison) had died within the past year. John was living in Fairfax Co., VA. The dates don't go along with your Elizabeth, but there's the same names----as you say, it's all rather confusing. Barbara Dahl
Hi list, Soes anyone have ANY info on a William Posey who married Eunice Bowen in Henry Co. GA. in 1835? and is he the same William Posey who married Lucy Black in Henry Co. in 1845? I need to know if he was born in SC and when, and if he was married before these two marriages? Hopefully, Meg
Hi Emma Gene! My James Posey was born somewhere in GA in 1816, white family. His first wife was Pauline, born 1816 in GA. His second wife was Emily Spencer Anderson. James had seven children; his son, John Richard, b. 1844 in Laurens Co, GA married Minerva Murphey of Tennessee. John Richard was my great grandfather. John Richard served in the Confederate Army in Alabama in Company K. Does this help you? I've searched for James for two years, and cannot nail hin down. Any help is greatly appreciated. Peggy Pence
Hi J.H.! My James Posey was born somewhere in GA in 1816, as his wife Caroline. His son, John Richard, was born in Laurens Co, GA. He served in the Confederate Army in Alabama, Company K. His second wife was Emily Spencer Anderson. He died in Alabama. Anything you can tell me about his parents, siblings, birthplace would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you, Peggy Pence (Wiskerz45@aol.com)
Hi Helen! I would be forever grateful if you could send me data about James' parents and siblings and birthplace. He was probably white, was born in GA in 1816; married first a woman named Caroline b. 1816, then later Emily Spencer Anderson. He had seven children, most born in GA, the rest in AL. Thank you! Peggy Pence (Wiskerz45@aol.com)
Dear Brenda Brewer and other interested readers-- I was reviewing a message you had placed in Rootsweb 5 Jun 1999 to Gene Gentry regarding the Posey line. Perhaps you can shed some light on my search for the parents of an ELIZABETH POSEY, b c1750. She married 1) a HUFFMAN and they had two children ADAM and SALLY (SARAH). She married 2) ROBERT SIDNEY ADAIR in 1774. They had children ROBERT SIDNEY AND NANCY. The ADAIRS moved from VA (county unk) to Pendleton County SC during the Rev. to avoid harrassment by Tories. However Tories/Indians killed Robert in 1783, 3 weeks before his son was born. Your mention of the marriage of John POSEY III to Elizabeth Adair seems to indicate that the families perhaps lived nearby. Do you know if this marriage was in MD or VA? Did John Posey III have male children other than John IV that could have had child named Elizabeth Posey abt 1750 +/- 5 yrs. Have you put together an outline of the descendants of John Posey? It all seems rather confusing. I would appreciate any information you could share. Thanks, EdKelley@aol.com

Hello. My name is Meg Posey and I too have a James Posey in my ancestry, though I think he is not the same as any of yours. My James Augustus Posey was my great grandfather, b. about 1855 in (probably) Alabama, had a son -- Carl -- in 1906, married Mary Blanche Stone around that same time. My dad thinks he was a stone mason or contractor. If anyone has any ideas about him, that would be tremendously helpful. I have run into innumerable walls trying to track him down. Thanks! Meg
You have information about James Posey. Which James Posey and from where? J.H.
