He was born in 1905 in Illinois. Beyond that when the topic came up grandfather would only say he had rough childhood and hinted that his father had died when he was very young. My grandfather's name was John Wright, so one can imagine this relatively common name means he is difficult to track down. I don't know if I could be my grandfather, but I found a 5 yr-old John Wright in a 1910 census (Mt Vernon, IL). He and several other children, and adults, were listed as inmates in jail. How did that work? Why would a 5 yr old be a jail inmate? No other 'inmates' were named Wright. Any information would be interesting to learn.
