Unquote Based on dates and age 18/19 when in the County Gaol, I would think these acts of misconduct probably happened in the workhouse quite a bit earlier - maybe even in the late 1840s. First question: At what ages did boys start in the workhouse, and leave the workhouse? Were there set ages? I know this Richard CLARKE was living with his mother during the 1841 census (the aged about 10). His mother died 1845, (no father) so my guess is he went to the workhouse sometime after this date. Perhaps. Second question: If this man lived in Fulbourn, just outside of Cambridge, Cambs, what workhouse would he likely have been assigned to, and do searchable records exist regarding the occupants, and the punishments etc. Thanks for reading.
