In attempting to do my family history I discovered that my Great Grandmother died in Dundalk Workhouse at the age of 35, 4 months after giving birth to twin boys, one of which died hours after birth. It appears that she was deserted by her husband sometime around summer of 1900. he had been a soldier and hourse trainer. It's a long ans sad story which is still only becoming clearer. In attempting to get records from the then workhouse, i discover that a decision was taken by the Dundalk Council around the time the state was being established, to distroy all Workhouse records on the basis that noone would ever want to know that a relative was ever an inmate. Such a pity. Hope this is of help. Willie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
