Her birth certificate gives not only this information but also the fact that her mother was living there, and that she worked as a domestic servant at an address in London (10 Shaftsbury Avenue, Plaistow). Armed with all this information I thought I would easily find either of them in the 1891 census records, but I cannot. Has anybody any idea why? Is it the case that those in an institution were not recorded??? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Kirkdale Industrial School is mentioned on the following website... http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Liverpool/ There is also mention of it on Who Do You Think You Are? Griff Rhys Jones. One of his family members went there and it gives a brief outline of the place. A link to the clip on the school is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=zGb8CpBTuKs It states how it was a strict girls school which specialised in domestic servantry. Hoping I am as fortunate this time around :) I found my Great Grandfather in the 1940 Census! Huge milestone! However, I need to find him in the 1930 census and I believe he was in the same hospital in 1930 that he was found to be in for 1940. Emil Sorger DOB: 19 Apr. abt. 1900 DOD: 28 Jul. 1941 - 1940 Census for Allegheny County Hospital for the Insane ED# 2-102 Pennsylvania, Collier Twp. Allegheny County Unincorporated Place "Woodville" Also does anyone know what code XX09 under the residence section of the Census means? Also, it says he was Married. I know he married my Great Grandmother in 1922 but by 1925 she is already "married" to another man and had another child in May of 1925. If your spouse was institutionalized could you remarry without a divorce? Trying to find if she actually remarried or if her and her new husband were NEVER married. Thanks! Linda, hi again- I thought I'd also send you the info from my poorhouse book with the name of 'Doyle' from Genesee county -since it borders on Erie county- on the slim chance it may be related to yours: *John Doyle ~ Hatter[occupation], January 9, 1858, from Ireland *Mary Doyle - committed to Willard[asylum], December 6 1894 Maybe you could also check with the historian for immigration records - your ggrandfather may show up there, if he was born overseas. Hope you enjoy your geneology treasure hunt ! : )Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <lindadougan047@velocity.net> To: <poorhouses-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 7:46 AM Subject: [POORHOUSES] james doyle > My greatgrandfather died in the erie county poorhouse in 1915, i have > never been able to find poorhouse records, I thought id check once again > to see if someone can point me in the right direction. I have been informed thats the rumour within the family is that my great granfather Thomas Scorer b.1880 d.1941 spent part of his childhood within a workhouse as both his parents died before he was 10. My grandad always said that he never spoke much about his chidlhood but this is something that he does remember him saying. I know it is difficult but if there is abyone out there who is able to help it would be much appreciated. Thanking you all in advance Rachael Scorer. Eleanor might not show up on the census because she went to ireland if they didnt come back until 1905 then the only census they will appear on will be the 1911 unless you can find them in the irish records, try checking the incoming ships passenger lists you might find them there. Good luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

Hugh McCrisken Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.institutions.poorhouses.general/115/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for Eleaner Robb (1884)born in Govan Lanarkshire. She seemed to go missing until 1905 when she was married (in Govan) to Hugh McCrisken (1873) from Ireland. He also seems not to be on any census records, but wasn't on any Scottish census lists either. I wondered if Eleanor might have been in an institution, but have no idea what would have brought Hugh to Scotland as without the census reports I do not know his occupation. I have Gros Data to prove Eleanor's birth and the marriage. I would be grateful for any information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
