Pollard Sr. b. 1767/68 m. Amy (Amelia) Clarke to his suspected father Thomas Pollard. Thomas Pollard may have been better known as "Old Henry" or "Henry" b. 1741 m. Rachel ?. On at least one account this Thomas possibly aka "Old Henry" Pollard shows that there is another marriage 2 years before the 1765 marriage to Rachel ? to a one Sally Harding in 1763 and names him "Old Henry" as well. I've seen a William S. Sr. listed as a son but have not been able to 100% prove that this is the same William S. Sr that m. Amy Clark(e) but it is very likely he is the same. I just need to prove it somehow. Dr. Wm. S. Pollard Sr. is buried at the Oak Hill Cemetary inside Evansville, Indiana in the Wm. S. Pollard Family plot. Now, there are a few Schenk graves in the family plot and there has been speculation that these Schenks could be family members of Wm. S. Sr.'s mother Rachel. Could Mother Rachel be a Schenk? Or is it simply members of his daughter Rachel's family? The latter would be highly unusual to me but possible, I suppose. You mentioned a Rachel Fenley, it's been said that this is the married name of Rachel Pollard, Wm.S. Sr's big sister? (BTW...Thomas aka "Old Henry" father was Joseph Pollard b. 1701, King & Queen County, Virg. - d. 26 Dec. 1791 and mother Priscilla Hoomes or Holmes.) To make things even foggier to a researcher is that it appears that Wm. S. Pollard Sr. & Amy Clarke had sons named Wm. Jr. and Silas. These sons/brothers (Silas & Wm. Jr.) both married Sharpe sisters. Silas to Prudence Sharpe and Wm. to Sarah "Sally" Sharpe. Now, Silas and Prudence had a son named Wm. and Wm. and Sally had a son named Silas A. (I believe the "A" is for Ashby). My line is of Wm. Jr. & Sally Sharpe. Thier son Silas A. b. 25 Sept. 1837 married Sarah Montgomery on 1 May 1859 in Gibson Co. Ind. Silas A. & Sarah had 13 children. One son William b. 29 Apr. 1870 d. 5 Oct. 1942 is my GG. He married Mary Belle Frelan (my grandfather Floyd's b. 1901 mother) who died in 1903. Wm. remarried to a Margaret ?. So, as you see there can be easy confusion as to who's a direct line. It appears your line is Silas the son of Wm. S. Sr. and not of Wm. Jr.. They're simply 2 different Silas' and Williams' very closely connected in time and relation by common family honoring. In other words it appears your Silas was my Silas' uncle. Your Silas & Prudence did have a son named Wm. but he's not my direct line. i.e. Wm. Sr > Wm. Jr > Silas A. > Wm. > Floyd > Floyd Deon > Me. Does this make sense? I hope so...sometimes it does'nt to me! But, I can be easily confused.:-) I'm sorry if I had reported inaccurately about my direct line in the past. Now, what makes me wonder even more is that through Pollard family lore my Pollard's are supposedly from the Boston/Billerica area. However, if indeed Thomas aka "Old Henry" is the father of Wm. S. Sr. then our line of Pollards thus far appears to be from Wales directly to Virginia. If this is so how can my Pollard family lore be so glaringly inaccurate? Also, it's been said that one or more or our line during or before Wm. S. Sr. were slave owners in Virginia and possibly (however doubtful) also in Kentucky. Could there have been a very serious family rift because of this? I do know that my late Pollards were staunch anti-racists. It's been noted that Wm. S. Sr. moved from Kentucky to Indiana because of his distaste for slavery and my Wm. Jr. and your Silas followed suit as did a few other Pollard's. Could it be that this family rift was so strong that either the "pro-slavery" or the "abolitionist" Pollard's were able to influence record keepers to somehow alter or omit fac! ts from official records? Or did they purposely withhold information from the public record to distance themselves from the others? After all, our line did hold positions of constable, attorneys and county clerks in Virginia and Kentucky. I'm only speculating. However, I'm not the only one that runs into "a wall" as to whom Wm. S. Pollard Sr. father truly is 100% and it all leads me to believe that something unusual had occurred. Who is Dr. Wm. S. Pollard's father, why is it so hard to prove who is Thomas aka "Old Henry" Pollard and whom his children are? In this forum a lady named Dorothy Sparks had posted a message: <<<HI, At the Library in Shelbyville, are papers, (UNPUBLISHED), on POLLARDS filed with the SHARP family, whom they married with. 'Old Henry & Rachel, natives of Lunenburg Co., VA. settled KY. ca. 1800 & d. there; --their son William & Amy [nee CLARKE] (of VA.) Wm. was constable of Shelby Co., KY., papers list their ch.; (I have copy of these papers. If you're interested e-mail your 'SNAIL-MAIL' address & I will forward them to you. EMAIL: dms0419@hotmail.com >>> I emailed her just last night and await the material. As her post was at least 2 years old I'm hoping she still has the same email address. Her docs could lead to a break in the case if it also shows Thomas/Old Henry being Wm. S. Pollard Sr.'s father. If this it does then our family is most likely indeed from Wales directly to Virginia. I'm not a Roger because of the Pollard's. My given name is William Roger. William for my great grandfather on my fathers side and Roger from Rogelio Gonzalez, my grandfather on my mothers side. Another place I've found useful is the RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project Global Search at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi I've been looking for the book "The History of the Pollard Family in America" for a long time now. Would you have ANY idea where I can get a copy? I hope this info helps you and anything you have to help this solve mystery will be greatly appreciated. Best Regards. William R.
