D.W. Pollard and Maude Effie Toad definitely the Bernice's parents I was looking for. When I had originally posted this a few years back I was looking for Bernice because I wanted to find her children. I have located all three of Bernice Pollards and Lorance Lesters children and spoke to 2/3 of them and I have visits with the one child. Bernice is still alive and lives down here in Lambton County. She was with (don't think they ever married) my poppa Lorance Lester and then she had married Michael Tracy whom she had 2 or 3 children. I would love to hear back from you. Melissa BTW, the one man Williard you wrote of, either he or his son had raised one of Bernice's children........

I read in someone else's Pollard research that there are two volumes. I have located the book, but the bookseller says the Harvard listing shows just one. Does anyone know for sure that the second volume exists? **Note from bookseller - There is a signed letter from the author, dated September 19, 1961, laid in to the book. He states, "The book sales at $5 per copy will not, by any means, cover the cost of production. However, if I get a reasonable amount of money back I intend to publish Volume II."** Thanks, Dianna Pollard Strainic

Where in Vic did your family live, mine ended in Castlemaine. Do you have the birth certificate for Rebecca as this should give you more details on John's place of birth etc. Was he married in Victoria ? There is some Pollards that I have found records for in Market Harbourough in Leicestershire if you find yourself there. Carmel
Sue, Do you have any idea where John Pollard came from or when he arrived in Australia. This may help others to make a connection or go back and review their own research. He settled at the home in which he died in Houston County in 1849. He was an elder in the Wells Creek congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 56 years. He helped to organize Houston County and was its first Circuit Court Clerk. He was a member of Company I, 50th Tennessee Regiment, and served with devotion through the entire Civil War. He represented Houston County in the state legislature in the seventies. Everywhere, whether in legislative halls, on the battle field or by the fireside, he walked worthy of the vocation wherewith he was called. He raised nine children, all of whom are consistent, active members of the church.--A Friend. I know from my research that his wife's name was Eliza Scripture; the children were George, May/Mae, Harry, Lavina/Vina & Elsie; all similar to what you have. Their marriage occurred in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where at least the first child was born. The family apparently returned to Clinton Co., where they were listed in the 1900 & 1910 Census. But I lose track of them after the 1910 Census. Do you have any further information on this family? May I ask what your source is for information on the family (I notice that you have Eliza's maiden name)? I have the married names of the three daughters, but I haven't verified them. Perhaps we can share, and work back & forth?? Ted Mudge mudgekin@earthlink.net
