Marilyn, One of the hard things to do it guess how an English person would phonetically spell a Polish name spoken in correct Polish. The English alphabet is not the same as the Polish alphabet. They have sounds that we do not use in our lanugage. This is where the Marcewicz name was found in Poland in 1990: Marcewicz 110 Wa:8, Bs:9, El:7, Gd:4, JG:3, Ko:9, Lg:5, Lu:37, £d:20, Sz:7, Wr:1 This means that there have been old document found with this spelling, but the surname did not exist in Poland in 1990: Marciewicz 0 0 Please give us the names of the immigrants, who came to the US in your family, and their first generation born here and where they lived. Give us known years of birth. I and others will see what we can first find for you. Marcewicz is the English name my family used but I am unable to find them in the usual censuses.... 2) I was directed to the second name, Mroszczak in the Ellis Island data because of dates of birth, arrival dates, departure locations...but I don't know how to connect them with the current name?? I don't know what state my person may have elected (if he did) to naturalize for citizenship??? Should I just start to look thru all the censuses of New York, Ohio, Penn, and Michigan (where my family is ultimately from?). As well as any Naturalization records of states from NY to MI.?? Thank you for your response. Very interesting information. I am looking for Bartoney or Bartholemew Marciewicz, b:abt1890, in Poland, unknown where; His wife, Antonia or Antionette (Kindzerski, sp?) b:abt 1892 in Poland, unkown where. I am not sure if Bartholemew and Antonia were married in Poland or if each came over individually. Barthlemew may have been married to a Frances or Francesca first while in Poland. I'm not sure but think she died, and may have had a son, Chester. First generation Marcewicz of our family were located in and about Detroit, Wayne County, MI. Stella, b1917, Vincent, 1921, Helen, 1923, and Frances, 1925.
