3. The name following nee is the maiden name. In Polish they use z instead of nee. 3. HI Teresa: A maiden name is the family name carried by a woman before marriage. A maiden name is sometimes indicated using the word "née" (pronounced "nay", IPA: /ˈneɪ/), from the French word for "born", e.g., "Margaret Hilda Thatcher née Roberts" or parenthetically, e.g., "Margaret Hilda (Roberts) Thatcher". A married name is the family name taken by a married person at the time of the marriage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Married_and_maiden_names .... That is an interesting title to your document you so kindly share. Is the original document in English or transcribed from another language of origin? It's just the word "morality" strikes a nerve and I get sensitive when hearing it. <G> Is the paper from Poland? .... As in my culture (Samoan/Tahitian/Polynesian) the word "nee" is never used as the first name always became the surname when someone got married and started a their own/new family - that name pattern is discontinued. So, who knew what the original surname began as (or if they really even had surnames as the records will always show only first? names well before 1900) and then there was a third surname added later if a wo/man became a chief in the village - and this name pattern still continues. Hope this helps. .... 3. A "Testimony of Morality" was issued years ago regarding immigration. I remember everyone having them. Nothing to get upset about! It was a document attesting to your good citizenship. Back then, morality was adhered to. A testament to that fact would not be looked down on. ooloo¯¯l,[o___o],l---L--[]lllll[]¬()_) ()_)----)_) My RubiconNew York Rich > Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2007 07:46:00 -0700> From: manaiaalofa@yahoo.com> To: polandbordersurnames@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [PBS] Testimony of morality> > HI Teresa:> > A maiden name is the family name carried by a woman> before marriage. > > A maiden name is sometimes indicated using the word> "née" (pronounced "nay", IPA: /ˈneɪ/), from> the French word for "born", e.g., "Margaret Hilda> Thatcher née Roberts" or parenthetically, e.g.,> "Margaret Hilda (Roberts) Thatcher". > > A married name is the family name taken by a married> person at the time of the marriage.> > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Married_and_maiden_names> ....> > That is an interesting title to your document you so> kindly share.> > Is the original document in English or transcribed> from another language of origin?> > It's just the word "morality" strikes a nerve and I> get sensitive when hearing it. <G>> > Is the paper from Poland?> ....> > As in my culture (Samoan/Tahitian/Polynesian) the word> "nee" is never used as the first name always became> the surname when someone got married and started a> their own/new family - that name pattern is> discontinued.> > So, who knew what the original surname began as (or if> they really even had surnames as the records will> always show only first? names well before 1900) and> then there was a third surname added later if a wo/man> became a chief in the village - and this name pattern> still continues.> > Hope this helps.> ....> > Regards,> --Manaia> > ++++> > > --- T Hoitt <twinklehoitt@yahoo.com> wrote:> > > Hi,> > > > I have a small document that says Testimony of> > Morality on it.> > > > Kazimierz Basis (my grandfather)> > 2.10.1899 (his birth date)> > Dowboryszki - Poland (place of birth ) I thought> > he was born in Lithuania....my mom even says so.> > > > August and Damicela are his parents (Son-surname of> > parents)> > > > what does nee mean? after nee is says Mackanis> > > > This is from a Polish Camp in Germany. > > > > Can anyone help?> > > > Teresa> > __________________________________________________> Do You Yahoo!?> Tired of spam?
