    3. Hi, John Dybowski <jdybowski@roadrunner.com> asked for help understanding a note from the Polish State Archives branch in Krakow. Shannon Hinners kindly offered a translation, but I'm afraid it was not too clear. The note said the Archive searched the records of the Roman Catholic parish in Iwanowice, to which the Sulkowice now in Krakow county belonged at the time in question, but found no birth records for Andrzej or Antoni Dybowski. They added that there are two other places named Sulkowice in Krakow province, one a town in Myslenice county, the other a village near Andrychow in Wadowice county. The records for those places are not held by the Archive, so they can't search them. If you're interested, they suggest contacting the Roman Catholic parish churches that would have the records in question. For the Sulkowice near Myslenice, the address is: Parafii Najswietszego Serca Pana Jezusa w Sulkowicach ul. Tysiaclecia 1a 32-440 Sulkowice POLAND For the one near Andrychow, the address is: Parafii Milosierdzia Bozego w Sulkowicah-Legu ul. Koscielna 8 34-120 Sulkowice-Leg POLAND To sum up, there are no birth records for Andrzej or Antoni Dybowski in the Sulkowice records the Archive possesses. But there are two other places named Sulkowice, and the Archive does not have those records. It makes sense to contact them, and see if that leads anywhere. You'll have to contact the individual parish churches for that -- unless, of course, the records you need are available from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. I assume you checked that first, since dealing with the FHL is much faster and cheaper than writing to Poland. I checked the FHL catalog just now and didn't find any records for any of the Sulkowices, so I'd say writing the individual churches is the next logical step. If you need help writing a letter in Polish, there's a letter-writing guide here: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/rg/images/36339_LWGPolish.pdf So one Sulkowice is a dead end -- maybe one of the other two will turn out to be the right one. Good luck! Fred Hoffman
