    1. Re: [PBS] English for name "Teclesphor"
    2. In going thru birth records from Gorzno, Poland, I ran across this given name "TECLESPHOR". It appears to have Greek roots, I would think, but am not sure. Does anyone have an interpretation of this? Many thanks, Dolores ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

I have never seen Teclesphor, but I have to wonder if it is simply a misread or mispelled version of Telesphor? In Polish that name is usually spelled Telesfor. There's more information on this name under the French version, Telesphore, here: http://www.behindthename.com/php/view.php?name=telesphore Since the name is not terribly familiar, even in Poland, people wouldn't necessarily know how to spell it correctly, and errors could easily happen. Jan Grzenia's book on Polish given names says there were 1,044 Polish males named Telesfor as of 2002, but this name had been given to children less than 100 times in the second half of the 20th century. So it's rare these days and probably considered hopelessly old-fashioned. One of the books I have on Russian names mentions it. A Google search of the Cyrillic spelling brings up mostly references to the name in Greek mythology, though there are some Websites mentioning people by that name. That's my best guess, anyway.
