Hi, Since we're discussing the name HEIDUCK, it's worth mentioning that in Poland this name most often appears in the form HAJDUK (pronounced much like a combination of the English words "HIGH-duke"), of which HEIDUCK may well be a Germanized or Anglicized form. It has many variant spellings, including HEJDUK. I posted a brief note on the origin of this fascinating name here: http://www.polishroots.org/surnames/surnames_14.htm#HAJDUK That won't be much help tracing a given family by this name. But I thought I'd mention it because sometimes knowing the various possible spellings of a name can come in handy. By the way, Tina Ellis answered the query on the surname BEZODIS, and wondered if I could add anything. I'm afraid I can't. When a thread on this name appeared on the Lithuanian mailing list earlier this year, I checked my sources to see if they mentioned anything useful. I came up empty. It does seem plausible that it could come from a Lithuanian word meaning "speechless," but that's about all I can say. Fred Hoffman www.fredhoff.com
