Dear Jim, Regarding 'nee vs alias' for the Poznan Project, what Lukasz is wanting is any other name in the marriage record that can be attributed to the bride. You'll see stuff like 'Marianna Malecka nata (or procreata/de gente/geb./geboren/de familia etc) Kresinska', write 'Malecka' in the surname column and 'nata (etc) Kresinska' in the 'maiden name/alias' column. You may see things like 'Marianna Malecka nata Kresinska 1.voto Kujawa', in this case again put 'Malecka' in the surname column and 'nata Kresinska 1.voto Kujawa' in the maiden/alias column (1.voto literally means 'first marriage (also 2.voto, 3.voto etc)). If the bride has something like 'Marianna Malecka alias Kresinska', put 'Malecka' in the surname column and 'alias Kresinska' in the maiden/alias column. Noting the difference between a previously married surname and an alias is important for accurate searches. Sometimes a widowed or divorced bride's original surname isn't written after her name, you'll get something like 'Marianna Malecka' marked as a widow or divorcee with her father's name being 'Joannes Kresinski'. In this case, Lukasz wants us to write 'Malecka' in the surname column and 'nee Kresinska' in the maiden/alias column so that the bride will come up in a 'Kresinska' search. If only the mother's name is written instead of a father's I usually write the mother's surname with a questionmark in the 'nee maidenname' column, if there is a difference in the widow/div. and mother's surnames. Elyssa, et al: In a baptismal record for Caroline Polk, baptized 20 Nov, 1845, it shows her parents as Franz Polk and Josepha Boron alias Slawik. Hello Charles: Interesting... I'd have thought her birth name would be Josepha Boron SLAWIK meaning she carried both surnames if there were no male issues or there were but died at an early age.
