Pat, Based on what hyou have found, it looks like you are just about ready to begin researching microfilmed records, providing the LDS have copied them. Before you jump into ordering film, let's see if others feel confident about what you have found. Since I have not seen any document or anything in what you say as being how a place looked like it was spelled on any document, there is no way to know if your assumptions may be correct or not. I found these two places using the Shtetlseeker: Buchatino 52°55' 27°05' E M U G Belarus 70.8 miles SSW of Minsk 53°54' 27°34' Bushaten 52°06' 30°37' E M U G Belarus 177.5 miles SE of Minsk 53°54' 27°34' I don't know where you came up with Buczatin. Based on my little knowledge of phonetics, I think this place could be your Keaniche: Kanichi 53°17' 32°10' E M U G Belarus 193.2 miles E of Minsk 53°54' 27°34' I wonder what others on the mail list may think and on the Russian list, where you also cross-sent your letter. Have kyou heard from others about where these places may be. Can you provide me with a copy of the documents where you have found the place names? Maybe you can post them on a website for all of us to see ??? I have all documentation for my gfather and gmother that I can gather from the US. I am fairly confident that my gmother came from Bucatina or Bucatino, although I have seen the town spelled Buczatin on the ship manifest and other places. I used jewishgen to find this town, which is in the Minsk region, I believe. My gfather is another story. Though all documentation reads something like Keaniche, I think perhaps the town may be Konashi. I do know that some Najmolowski(a) names exist near Lida or Slonim. The problem is that I do not know where to write or what to look for or if LDS has films from Bucatino. I also do not know how to proceed on my gfather's information. I do not want to list all the information that I already have on here. I believe I must now locate information that deals with their lives in Belarus, not the US. How should I proceed now? Tina & others, If you go to Ancestry.com and type in Magdalena Padnewitz, you should find the first entry lists her town as Buczatin. If you look at those listings around her name, you will see that others were from this town. I have found other people "Podnevich/ Padnewitz" from the same time. Also I found a listing for Soninja Masemenja in immigration who was from that town and states that she is going to visit her friend, Alena Podnewitz. My gmother's middle name was Helen. When I put the town in ShtetlFinder/JewishGen, I got nothing. At one time, a person in Belarus offered to help me find her documents. He said he believed the town is Bucatino and that some people with that name still live there.
