Re: Ret, Vol 3, Issue 787 Re: Wawiernia - Bilinski - Jelska (Tina Ellis) (Tina Ellis) Tina, Thank you very much for all your help. I certainly have my work cut out for me. I only wish I could have had more time with my grandparents. They died during my senior year in high school. I can remember having my grandfather try and teach me Russian rather than Polish. At the time I thought Russian was a much more "exotic" language than Polish. When one is young how stupid we can be! Phil " You did great finding this place. The Slownik does not give the name of a parish for Bialousy. The Slownik does say that it was in the gmina of Janow and powiat of Sokolski. http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_I/195 Many times the gmina and parish are in the same town/village. Today there is a parish in Janow, which has been there since 1740. If that yield any information, than try Sokolka, today's gmina. They have two parishes. The oldest one has been there since 1631, the newer one since 1987. LDS Catalog site for microfilm: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp My grandmother told me the same story. Her father would not let her go to school. He pulled her out. They lived across the road from the school in their tiny village. Her father taught her at home.
