I thought I gave you a link for the draft? Here it is, but by subscription unless you can get access via a public library: http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=6482 What I use? Maybe just see what I have written on my beginner's resources page: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~thecohens/resources.html I use http://www.Ancestry.com for 1930 census, but many prefer Heritage Quest for 1920 and earlier, as it is free thru many public libraries. See info about that on my resources page. HQ does not have much 1930 and the drawback of using it is they usually only index head of houshold. About the draft, John was too old, I've lost track of who was born when/where, but only men in your family born 1875-1900 would be of the right age to have had to report to the draft board. Maybe it was 1870, but I think 1875 was the cutoff date. Birth certificates also sometimes have father's origin, but that's less likely to be true with earlier than later records. You have been advised by someone else to try the church records, and maybe you'll have luck with them. Also, sometimes the census records will say what town or region people and/or their parents were from instead of just the country. It is a rarity, but always worth checking all the censuses you can get, in case you might find some gem on one or more of them.
