I am looking for the family of Joseph Antypowich (Soundex) born in Russia in1852. I do not have a birth date or a place of birth. He married Helen Kulchysky born 1866 in Russia. Their children were as follows: 1. Simon born in Odessa, Russia Aug 12, 1881 2. a daughter, Kornella born in 1883 in Russia 3. Victor born July 18, 1888 in Tarhaewcka, Russia. Victor married Lena Melashenko (Soundex) born March 22, 1892 in Petroka, Harkow, Russia. She was the daughter of John F. Melashanko (soundex) and Ywdokia Hardenko. 4. Elizabeth born 1889 in Russia-apparently drowned in 1898 in Russia 5. John born July 1891 in Russia 6. Olga born 1892 in Russia. Died 1904 in Russia-burned 7. Vijgante born 1896 died in 1896 a few months old 8. Twin boys born 1899. Died at birth -premature 9. Annie born May 27, 1902 in Crimea, Russia 10. Joseph born 1903 in Russia They immigrated to Canada in 1904 but I have no information about what port they sailed from or what vessel they on -however the entire family came together. Family stories say that they started their journey from Kiev. I would imagine they would have traveled by train but have no confirmation of that. Joseph is reported to have spoken 7 languages. Also Joseph is said to have fell into a lime pit and sustained severe burns on his back and side that left horrific scars. No one expected him to live when they took him to the hospital- including the doctors and hospital staff who would have let him die as painlessly as possible. His family took him home and nursed him back to health-it was apparently a long and difficult recovery. It is believed that Joseph only had one sibling-a sister whose name may have been Marion or Maria The family always said they were Polish or White Russian. The history of Russia and Poland and Ukraine is so convoluted that as far as I can see anything is possible. I am hoping that someone can give me a lead. Thank you Gloria Antypowich
