I am trying to trace my grandfather Morris Shacher and I have no information on when he emigrated to the U.S. - sometime in the 1890's we think. The census data shows him to be from Latvia, but that name does not appear to be like other Latvian surnames. Family may have emigrated to Latvia, or the surname was changed when he entered the United States. Any ideas? Kathryn D.
