Szylik Szdlak /Szydlik Szydlak Tues Feb 17 2009 7:07 PM From: [email protected] to: [email protected] I found your search at the NE Genealogical website 'Sidlik' Dabrowy Bristol, CT Carol Carter My search found that my dad's surname 'Shedlock' came from his Dad... SIE gives the sound of 'SH.' Siedlar could easily have become Siedlak r-k Wojciech 'Siedlar' / 'Siedlarczyk' [18th century in Krosnica Austria, Polish, first used 'Siedlarczyk,' then some changed it in America-Think how difficult it was to keep spelling the old country's names] Grandfather Shedlock: Adalbert 'Sydlak' 1900 Manifest to Carbondale PA from Krosnica Austria Pol Wojciech 'Szydlak' 1907 Manifest w/wife Marya and Dau, Marya to Passaic NJ George 'Siedlak' 1919 in Adena OH Church Records Son baby Walter died in 1919, & OH death certificate had 'Shellock' George 'Shedlock' 1920-30 Censuses OH/Simpson [Carbondale]LackawannaCtyPA Parents Mary Janczak & George used 'Siedlak'-Cadiz/Adena Jefferson Cty OH Janczak became Jansock in a 1914 birth certificate of Dau KAY. Son, Stanley's Family, from Union County NJ used 'Shedlak.' I still can't find his WWII registration. Stan went into the Marines but I found no record yet. On the other side 'Bednarczyk' became 'Bednarik' on the US 1900 Census. 1906 Grampa & Gramma's wedding Georg and Mary 'Benerik' Strus appeared. 1910 Census Forest City PA again 'Bednarchek.' Cousins used 'Bednarczik.' We used Bednarczyk and then 'Bednarick.' Finally, after about 1919 it became 'Benarick.' Strus in 1910 became "Truce." Believe it or not! Thanks to someone else, I found the sound-alike? Wielgors became Wielgus & probably other spellings. Stanislaw = Stanley And the above does not include the "disownment of certain family memebers." Happy Researching, ;-) Joanie Wielgus
