That is a great question and I will be curious to see any ideas. I am waiting for records from LDS archive from Poland which I believe also will be in Russian and am wondering how I will figure it out. I am thinking if the names are at least recognizable, I might try my sister, who was a Russian major in College but that was a long time ago. If you don't get any good sources, I could ask my sister if she might be able to help. --- On Fri, 2/6/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [PBS] translation of church records To: [email protected] Date: Friday, February 6, 2009, 4:26 PM Can anyone give me some ideas on how I can get church records I received from the Archives in Zamosc which are written in Russian around 1855 translated into either Polish or English? Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. Donna **************Who's never won? Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Hi, Tina has sent you the best place to begin :)) Then if you find yourself seriously wishing to read these documents one of the best investments you will ever make will be the 'In Their Words' books by Shea and Hoffman - the Polish and Russian volumes. http://www.langline.com/Publications.htm The later the Cyrillic records you have the better the chances that names may be written in both Cyrillic and Polish. This can be an extra bonus if one or the other version is tricky to read. Good luck, Bronwyn.
