Barbara- Do you have "snip" capabilities on your computer? That's what I use and it's perfect! Melanie -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Barbara Sent: February-20-09 7:57 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PBS] Ellis Island manifests Hi, Maybe this question has been addressed already, but I don't recall seeing information on if it is possible to do what I would like. When searching Ellis Island and finding the manifest you want, is it possible to save the document in a file or print it so you can read it later? I am not a computer person so I don't know if there are ways to do this, if anyone can give me instructions I would greatly appreciate it. For Melaie, I am not sure what a snip capability is. Where would I find it on the computer" For Linda, I had Ancestry but a lot of the documents printed fuzzy. For JD, how can I get win.ptr? For Jim, I have windows. The page I am trying to copy has a lot of information some of which was added years later. The document is from 1920 and is the only one I can find. It states she lived in the US from 1906-11. I can not find a manifest in her maiden name. It's said she lived in NY when she came here and then went to PA where she married. My problem is that the church she married in says they have no records. The church split, a bitter dispute, and my grandmothers part no longer was under the Pope. Can't figure out what happened to the records. I assume she married sometime between 06-11, were they requied to have wedding applications in Pa. at that time? did they have register in a court? Thanks to all of you who responded. Barbara
I use Internet Explorer. When viewing the image, if you hold your mouse steady over the image, a small toolbar appears over the image. One of the icons is a diskette. If you click that icon, it will prompt you to save the image (in GIF format) to your computer. I've never had any trouble with this. I have been following the post's regarding the manifests and I was wondering what the snipping tool was also. After looking around I think I found what she was talking about. If you have Windows Vista then look at the round globe button on the bottom left where you click for the start menu. Next to the below is a small icon that just switch is between desktop etc. Right next to that it's a tiny tiny arrow-click on that tiny arrow and a selection will, appear that one will be the snipping tool. Click on it and in the upper left hand corner of your page the box will appear. In the box where you see new click on the down arrow and make your selection. No, When I open the programme directory- there is a list of icons (word, excel, claculator & etc)- the snipping tool shows as a pair of scissors (and a red circle behind).
