Jakki, You can try inserting variations into this site to see which it recognises as Polish surnames: http://www.herby.com.pl/indexslo.html * can replace uncertain letters. NAPAMION* does not give any results... http://translate.google.com/# does not come up with any obvious translation from Polish. http://www.jewishgen.org/communities/loctown.asp does not show a location. I would suggest posting a scan for others to read as there is a chance some of the letters may have been misread. Kind regards, Bronwyn. Is anyone doing Perz Family research,if so, can we please exchange info, I have ran into a brick wall. thanks Mary Perz Dashnier
"Na pamiątkę" means "As a remembrance" or "for a keepsake". It is a phrase commonly used on photographs given to friends or loved ones. The phrase, as you have written it, is either misspelt or not transcribed correctly. Cheers, Roman On 1/5/2010 6:12 PM, jakki szymanowski wrote: > > Thank you! The photo most likely shows several people all of whom are members of the RYSZ family. Ryszy is the plural form of Rysz. Roman On 1/5/2010 3:55 PM, Jakki Szymanowski wrote: > Hello- Would Ryszy be a surname? This was written on the back of a photo. > > Thank you. jakki >

I've been searching SSDI too. It is difficult to narrow SS number unless you know where the person lived when they applied and when they died. Knowing the ziip code for a location helps narrow it a bit. Good luck!
Tina, Given the initial warning on their website, I am reticent about gambling $16 when I need to confirm we have the right person, in cases where I know the parents of my relative, but do not know if it is the right social security record. I'll let you know.
Please let us know how you do. I know there was a letter on this mail list several years ago about what the computer readout had versus the original application. I have seen corrections on the applications, so I would lean towards paying the $27.00. Before the price when up to $27.00, it only cost $7.00. I ordered a lot of them when they were that price. It would be nice to know what the computerized one has on it. Sorry I do not recall the difference. I just know it was not enough for what I needed to know when it came to genealogy. Hi Ann, Thank you for telling the group about Lisa's podcast. Lisa is a personal friend of mine, along with Steve Danko. They are both so knowledgeable and very helpful in the subject of genealogy. I have attended seminars by Steve at the UPGSA Conference and the California Genealogical Society. We, the members of the San Ramon Valley Genealogical Society, have been fortunate to have him as one of our guest speaker. The SRVGS is very proud and pleased to have Lisa Louise Cooke as a Board Member, and she is always very willing to share her talents and expertise with us. You can enjoy more information from the both of them at: http://genealogygemspodcast.com and http://stephendanko.com/blog/ Happy New Year everyone! thanks Tina, it's also an 800 number, and they pick route calls all over the country. I had hoped someone on the list had tried, because I would trust their experience more than what a phone representative would say. but what they do with the new online ordering system could also have changed from the old days. What it says is it is a "Computer Extract of Social Security Card Application" for the $16 fee at: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps9/eFOIA-FEWeb/internet/main.jsp I would guess it should contain all the information, but wanted to make sure before we wasted money trying to save. I was most skeptical about the name and address at the time of the application, which we also really need. But I just looked at the separate page of instructions for filling out the form, and there it says "Computer Extract of SS-5 (May not contain the name of the individual's parents and the place of birth)" I think that answers my question, it would be a gamble. Too bad, I would like to get some others as well, but the $16 would be a lot more affordable than $27. I'll let you guys know if I find more out. I have never ordered the computerized version. All I know is that it does not contain the data needed for genealogical research ... parents names where where the applicant was born is what most people want to know. Maybe you can call SS to find out what they send for the lesser amount of money. They are in Baltimore, Maryland. so the parents are not on the printout? we know actual parents and birthplace of my ancestor, i am wanting to confirm that the SSDI we found is her, so minor typos on the printout do not matter. But if address and name at time of making application is not included in the printout, it is a waste of money. please confirm that is not on the printout. thanks On 1/3/10, Tina Ellis <polska.research@gmail.com> wrote: > The printout does not give you enough information. In regard to question: as anyone ordered the computer printout instead of a photostat? I am ondering if it includes everything on the initial application, or ust selected portions? ******************************************* ong time ago, I got a SS printout; it has less on it than the original SS application. Best to go for application; they can't put any more in computer than is on the original. Even then, they could have mis-transcribed the information they put in computer. Anettka
The printout does not give you enough information. The copy of the original gives you the person's name at the time they completed the application. It will also tell you where she was born, her father's name and her mother's maiden name.
