Sarah, Most likely they married in the bride's parish. It is still the custom that people marry in the bride's parish. Do you know where Klara was born or lived? Once again Listers thank you for the response. I see what I have not been doing on the Shtetl site. At the left of the page when you click on the icon, it comes up with a different format, a map and a list of places to the right of the page, plus much more detail with alternate names etc. whereas before it brought up an entirely different format in columns. Needless to say I haven't had to use this site for some time. Kind regards, Helen Ginn
I take that back. You are right. It is still there, but we used to be able to type in what distance we wanted to search from a specific place, so that you did not get a ton of places if you were doing a soundex search. Hi I am just starting my grandfathers side of the family tree and am now not sure of where to look, I have the info he has told me and a copy of his birth certificate. My grandfather was Hubert Karol Susek born in Katowice to Henryk (has also been spelt Heinrich and Hendrich) Susek and Klara Lucja Wygrabek. They were a catholic family. Hendryk was a robotnik was born 1902 and died in 1941. Klara was born 1905 and died 6 Mar 1965. I don't know when or where they were married. I don't know the names of Hendryk's parents, but do know some of his siblings names (only what my grandfather could remember). Please can you advise me where to start looking for more info. Thank you Sarah Heaton _________________________________________________________________ Got a cool Hotmail story? Tell us now http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/195013117/direct/01/
I must be out of the loop with regard to "new and improved" and lack of finding communities within 10 km. I use http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp and on the RH side is a column with buttons you click to get a list of towns within 10 km. What am I missing? I do not see that feature any more on the "new and improved" version of Shtetlseeker. If you used this site: http://wwww.mapa.szukacz.pl, you can do it by finding the place you want. There is a kilometer counter on it. It works with our mouse. As you move it from the point you want, it will register the distrance from your destination village by the kilometer. According to the Book 3, page 671 of the Slownik, the parish for the place names Kajetano'wka in the powiat of Lubelski was in Bychawka. Kajetano'wka was in the gmina of Piotrowice. There are 14 places named Kajetanowka listed. The Slownik shows in Book 9, Page 799 the parish for Rostoka as being in Kumo'w, powiat of Chelmski. Rostoka was located in the gmina of Z.mudz'. The Slownik is online, and is functioning at this site: http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny. For a while it was not correctly functioning . You have to remember that the rules have changed from time to time on how records were kept. In 1808, Napoleon set the rule that everyone had to report BMDs to their local parish no matter what religion they were. Later the rules were relaxed and they were allowed to have all ministers and rabbis report them, so you will find them sometimes jumbled all together. If you see there are civil records, they can have all religions together. How about giving us the search parameters you used so we can see what you mean better and try to help. I have never used any option to search a particular radius, I have only looked at the community pages for the individual results of searching for a particular town name, and those still seem to show nearby shtetls. Here is one example: http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll ?jg~jgsys~shtetm~-1052247 On 2/14/10, Helen Ginn <ginn@ebtech.net> wrote: > > I have been trying to use the JewishGen ShtetlSeeker web site to find > locations within a 10 mile radius of a town but for some reason I no > longer get a list of places that are in the area. Helen, Have you positively located these towns or villages? http://www.jewishgen.org/communities/loctown.asp comes up with four locations in Poland named Kajetanowka, and various ideas for Bielin and Rostoka and similarly sounding places. (Alas only Bielin shows up on http://www.kartenmeister.com/preview/databaseuwe.asp and this does not look to be 'your' one.) There appears to be a cluster of your locations around 145 miles SE of Warsaw, placing them in the vicinity of records found by George - Poland, Lublin, Rostoka (Chelm). Have you looked into Slownik descriptions of these places? http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny/ You may need the Polish spelling Kajetanówka. [Vol I page 13 = abbreviations http://www.pgsa.org/Towns/slownikterms.php terms used in Slownik Slownik terms and abbreviations: http://www.pgsa.org/Towns/slownik_eng.php and more.... by Fred Hoffman! http://www.pgsa.org/Towns/powiats_and_wolas.php ] Good luck helping your friend, especially if this involves a completely new geographical region. Listers: I have been trying to use the JewishGen ShtetlSeeker web site to find locations within a 10 mile radius of a town but for some reason I no longer get a list of places that are in the area. Has there been a change in their format and has anyone else had the same problem? Helen Ginn
Listers: Many thanks for your input regarding films for Kajetanowka. My friend apparently was looking at G.C. Rostoka films that were listed but was reluctant to order as she said the religion was R.C. I have seen marriage records that list both religions on an entry so if there are marriages on film this could well be the case here, and the other option of searching Siedliszcze (Chelm) might show something. Many thanks for your replies. Helen Ginn
The Family History library catalog shows no microfilms listed under Kajetanowka or Bielin. It does show one llisted under Rostoka. If Kajetanowka is not too far from Rostoka, it may be that you will find information about people in K. in the parish records of Rostoka. The film is listed under "Poland, Lublin, Rostoka (Chelm). A quick check of the Polish map shows four places with the name of "Rostoka". You'll have to find out which of these is the one for the Rostoka that may cover your Kajetanowka. Hi Helen, Check out this map on the Shetl Seeker for Siedliszcze. It is slightly 2.7 miles southeast of Kajetanowka and LDS has records. It may be where your friend's family records are. _http://data.jewishgen.org/maps/mapdist8.asp?lat=51.0167&long=23.8167_ (http://data.jewishgen.org/maps/mapdist8.asp?lat=51.0167&long=23.8167) If you go to the LDS Library Catalog and put in Siedliszcze (Chelm), it could possibly have the records for Roztoka and Kajetanowka.
