Hello Tracy, Tulpin~ska or Tulpin~ski would be the correct way to spell this Polish surname. In 1990 there was only one adult carrying that name in Poland. That person was living in the province of Suwalskie. Today that is in in the province of Podlaskie. It even sounds reasonable that Tulpin~szki would be correct, but that name cannot currently be found in Poland. Wigrach is Wigry, which is located a little north east of the old provinicial capital city of Suwalski. There are two places in Podlaskie named Krasne, which would have been in the old province of Suwalskie. You can use this website to find them: http://www.mapa.szukacz.pl. They are these: *Krasne *wieś 40 osób woj. podlaskie pow. sejneński gmina Giby *Krasne *wieś 120 osób woj. podlaskie pow. sejneński gmina Krasnopol The one in the gmina of Krasnopol is the closest to Wigry. Most times names and places get misspelled because of ignorance. Sometimes our ignorance makes us thinks things are spelled wrong. Polish is not like English. We add words to show possession. They change how words end to do this and for other grammarical uses. There are many features of the language, which you will learn as you progress in your reasearch, i.e. -ska is a female ending on a surname, and -ski is masculine. Ship manifests were written in the port of origin, so if a German wrote is versus a French person or English person, the spelling would be different. They would use the closest phonetic sounds in their language to spell words. This is why we have such a hard time finding records. Polish has sounds, which cannot phonetically written correctly in English. They have sounds we just do not use in our language. Both Krasnopol and Wigry have parishes. You can see what records the LDS have on film using this website: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp This website will help you find an LDS Family History Center near you so you can order and rent the film at their facility: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp Good luck in your research. Claire, Do you know where your mother and her siblings were baptized? This would help a lot. First, it may give information regarding the name of the village your grandparents were born in (or it may not not), but you wrote: Nellie Zyblowizc b. 1929 the youngest is still alive but I know she had a husband that died so I don't know how to contact her or even the name she goes by?? I think if you can find your aunt Nellie's baptism records, you would find her husband's name. She would have had to get her Baptism, Communion and Confirmation records from the Church in order to be married. The rector would have made an entry to her record in the last column the date she married and the name of her spouse. If this was her only marriage, and if she was married a Catholic, you will have the name. Hope this helps. Noreen ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Social Security Death Index<http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=3693&enc=1> about Edward Zyblowicz Name: Edward Zyblowicz SSN: 339-22-0663 Born: 16 Oct 1925 Died: 4 May 1990 State (Year) SSN issued: Illinois (Before 1951 ) Both Adam and Anna were American citizens. Have you tried finding their citizenship papers? The 1930 census shows this. You need to find the 1910 and 1920 census records so you can better pinpoint a year for naturalization. They had to have been in the US at least 5 years. This site has an application to request the naturalization papers. http://www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/gifs/natsearch.pdf Your goal is to find something that will give you the name of the place where they were from in Poland. Once you know that you can search records from Poland if there are any available for their parishes. Good luck in your search. Ship manifests show people coming into the United States. Registration is required but free at Ellis Island; so, for those records, no subscription is needed. Other ports are found at ancestry.com. They are free to search; subscription required to see ship manifests. If you click on this link, you can use exact spelling and sounds like spelling to find Krakowiaks coming to the United States. When you want to look at a record, click on 'scanned manifest'; sometimes it is on two pages. http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html You will want to gather all the documents about your family in the United States; this will include civil and church records in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Here are some starter sites for your research: Allegheny County Genealogy: http://pittsburgh.about.com/od/genealogy/a/southwestern_pa_2.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~paallegh/ http://www.deathindexes.com/pennsylvania/index.html http://www.vitalrec.com/pa.html Regards, Mary Pamela Jansen wrote: > Wel, I amsaving up for ancestry right now. > I have a hand written note from my mother in law. Or you can check if your local library has a subscription to ancestry. Mine does. It may not offer everything the deluxe version does but it offers a lot. Also check if your library subscribes to Heritage Quest. -----Original Message----- From: polandbordersurnames-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:polandbordersurnames-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Marilyn Hertenstein Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2007 4:17 PM To: polandbordersurnames@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PBS] Surname- KRAKOWIAK Aren't they offering a free 14 day trial offer right now. 14 days might be all you need. Barbara, Check to see if your local library has a subscribtion to Ancestry.com. Mine does and that gives me access to all the federal census data. Although I'm not sure that allows you to print it out still the information is there. Also Heritage Quest is available through and only through libraries, it also has census data and sometimes it differs from the Ancestry.com data. I'm reaching a deadend in my searches and am wondering if paying for subscriptions is actually a good investment. Thanks for your help.
