I need some help with some new info that I just received. I am looking for the town that my gt grandparents came from. My mother just found a note that had my gt grandfather's name Teophil Bastecki b. 22 Feb 1886, d. 6 May 1977 and my gt grandmother Josephine Zembrzuski b. 13 Aug 1883, d. 12 Feb 1968. Below that it said "think they were born in Gubernia Pletzka, Poland or Gubernia of Pletzka Luvow". I have tried to look these names up and don't come up with anything. I have my gt grandparents marriage certificate. They were married 9 Jul 1906 in Allegheny County, Pa and resided in Sagamore, Pa and Natrona, Pa. They were both Catholic. The marriage cert. says that they were both from Russia but my gt grandfather's death cert. and census info say that he was from Poland. He was a miner in Pa. As far as your statement of being of Polish extraction, you need to remember that there were many more wars than just WW I and WWII in Europe. Poland's borders changed many times. Polish people began occupying the conquered areas. If a Polish person gave birth to a child in Ukraine, they were of Ukrainian nationality but of Polish etnicity. Hi Rose, Firstly, i got my letter tanslated from English to Polish through the trans@genealogy service, which you email them the letter (i think its no more than 400 words) and you put #ENG>POL in the subjext line. When i wrote the letter i made it to the point, and so that i didnt ramble on to much becuase it was for someone whom possibly wasnt interested, so i made it quite short. I also put into the letter, asking the person to please pass it onto another person whom has the same surname within your area if you are unable to help. If they live in a small area, where everyone kinda knows everyone, then they possibly would pass it on, that was my thinking anyway. Perhaps print out 10 copies of the letter, and send it to 10 people, assuming you can find addresses with the surname your looking for. Check to see online White pages with relavent surnames. After reading about your experience regarding sending letters, i realize and appreciate the luck the i had. Bobby.

Hi List... Whilst waiting impatiently for my grandparents immagration files, and having exhausted much internet searches, i decided to write to anyone i could find that lived in the same Area where my grandmother was born, in the hope of finding someone that knew of her and her family. I found one KUPER (my grandmothers' maidan name) that lives in kulaszne. I just searched on www.Poland.pl web site, and it came up with a KUPER. So i had nothing to lose and sent him a letter in polish which i had translated before it went. As Kulaszne was a fairly small place/town, i was hopeful that this person i was writing to would be a connection to my Grandmother, or would be so kind as to pass the letter on to another KUPER in the area, assuming of course there were more KUPERS in Kulaszne. I recieved a reply today, which was from the person i sent the letter to.( A big Thankyou to Eve for the translation). The letter contains information i was hoping for. I found a someone whom is connected to me, and he told me that my Grandmother used to send letters to His fathers' sister. What luck. By sending this 'random' letter i now have a relative in Poland that i'm able to communicate with. Extra names now added to my search list - Maksym & Katarzyna KUPER, Waryszczk MIKDAJ (i assume thats the surname) and Pelagia HANICZAREK.
