    3. I have been researching my husband's family tree containing the above surnames. At this point, I think we have extracted all the information possible from ship manifests and death records in Canada and the States. I ordered a film from the FHL, but found our little bit of Russian and Polish not adequate to the task. Could someone kindly recommend a researcher who could help us. We would first be interested in Lublin area in the late 1800's. This list has been very helpful to us so far. Thanks to all. Regards, Virginia

    3. Marie, great site. Thanks for sharing with the list. Virginia, I too recently ordered FHL microfilm to find paragraphs of Polish to make my head spin. First I found a Crash Course online at http://www.pgsa.org/CrashCourseInPolish.pdf that has some good information in it. Ultimately, I ordered the book In Their Words: A Genealogist's Translation Guide to Polish, German, Latin and Russian Documents, Volume I: Polish, 2nd edition by Jonathon D. Shea and William F. Hoffman. (available at Polish Art Center http://www.polartcenter.com among other places.) It is perfect and I am able to get the information out of the records. It has a lot of extra information too. I've also found the list of first names helpful, when I wasn't quite sure what the handwriting was, I cross check the list for correct spelling. There is also Volume II, which covers Russian. Good luck with your quest. :-) Trish Stumpf Garcia ----- Original Message ----- From: "virginia miller" <vjmill@telus.net> To: <poland-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 20, 2008 8:06 AM Subject: [POLAND] Buszowski,Zakrzewski,Kapron,Wisniewski > I have been researching my husband's family tree containing the above surnames. 3. Thanks to all who kindly responded to my request with helpful suggestions. I still have the film for a couple of weeks and will try again due to your encouragement. I think it is likely however that I will end up contacting the researcher. This list has been most helpful to us. Cheers, Virginia

    1. Re: [POLAND] how to organize my files?
    2. Barbara
    3. Hello all, I am desperately seeking information on how to get all the information I collected in some kind of order. I have saved everything in files, and also copied everything on paper just in case one or the other is lost (my computer crashed once), I know how to save the information to discs but I will have the same confusion I have now. Is there a program that helps you organize the information? What I would like to do is to be able to put this all on a disc or two and have it in order form birth in Poland to death in the US, and everything in between and since. Is there a way to store or save it so you can actually have it automatically turn pages to read? I an not a computer literate person, I did ask in Best Buy to see if there was such a program, I didn't get any help. If someone has a suggestion or knows of a program (if there is such a program) that that can do what I am looking for I would appreciate the information. My grandparents moved to several states and I have done a history search of the towns where they lived and and even found penny postcard pictures of the specific dates. (This gives me an idea of what it was like back then and since it is a special part of my history, I didn't know they moved so much until I started searching) I want to include things like that with the important papers, ie, manifests, all birth, marriage, baptism, census, naturalization, death, etc). I am so overwhelmed with the information I need help to make some sense of it, and I truly need help! Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Barbara

Virginia, If the microfilmed records you were looking at were in a paragraph format you'll probably find that Jack Bowman's site is very helpful in terms of translating the content: http://www.esisnet.com/~jackbowmanstc/poltrans.htm Regards, Marie
