    3. Perhaps this question might seem to have a rather obvious answer to it, but I have relatives who are or were living in the Adams / Portage, Wisconsin area named Gavinski (was Gawinski). I have the family information up to the 1930 census, but that is as far as I can go. My Great Grandmother, born in 1861 in Slesin, Bydgoszcz, Poznan, Poland (Bromberg, Posen, Prussia at the time) married an Ignatz Gawinski in Lemont, IL around 1882. About 1900 they moved to Adams, Wisconsin to farm in that area. My Great Grandmother's maiden name was Marianna Chrapkowska. She lived past 1930 and consequently, I do not have a date of death for her. I do have a photo of my father with his arm around her that has "Portage - Adams 1936 - Ed with his Grandmother" written on the back. I'm assuming she lived past 1936. If anyone has advice for me on how to go about following this line of my family after 1930, I would appreciate any and all suggestions. John

    3. I don't know much about what the Wisconsin Historical Society has to offer (never having dealt with them myself), but this record in their database looks promising: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/index.asp?id=213519&record_type=wni The site gives this description of the name index (in which the record appears): "The Wisconsin Name Index includes 150 county and local histories, dozen of professional directories and biographical encyclopedias, more than 60 scrapbooks containing 30,000 obituaries, and selected articles in Wisconsin magazines and newspapers. These publications were indexed by Wisconsin Historical Society librarians between roughly 1870 and 1970 but contain information on individuals from earlier date ranges." There are others with the surname that appear in the same database. Hope this helps.
