Deb, Here's the deal. If someone steals the envelope you are out the request _and_ the money and you'll never know if the priest is ignoring you. I know several "how-to" books suggest sending money up front but personally I don't do that. I do ask how I can make a donation. Asking that question lets the priest know that I intend to send money if he responds. I think it might also encourage him to do some looking.
