    3. Stephanie, Last year I tried to get birth certificates and the only payment they accept is a bank transfer from your bank to the archives account and it must be in Zlotys. I finally had to hire a researcher to get me the documents. She was reasonable and she also traced records back to 1700s on my family that I didn't know I had. 3. Stephanie, As Elaine mentioned you can only do this through a bank wire transfer and the fees charged by your bank and the intermediary bank (a New York bank) can easily add up to more than what the Torun~ branch of the Wl~ocl~awek Civil Archives would charge you. Check out US Money Express here: http://www.usmoneyexpress.com/ you can give/send them the money and for a smaller fee than your bank charges, they will transfer the money to the archives. I have used this service several times both as a wire transfer and to deliver cash in Poland and I never had a problem. You must tell the people who wire the money to include your name and address, the archive's correspondence number (Nasz znak: 843-73/10) then you need to send the archive an email telling them you've wired the money through US Money Express and again, listing their control number Nasz znak: 843-73/10. One problem though. Usually the archives indicate how much money they want up front. Once they actually locate records they will contact you again telling you generally what they found and how much it will cost above your deposit. This is where it gets expensive because of what US banks charge to press a button on their keyboards. The archives usually ask for around $30.00 per deposit. If you went through a bank, sent the deposit and then at the end send the archives more money you will have paid more than $80.00 in fees.
