Regarding the closing of Polish and other ethnic churches in the US recently, my home church in Massachusetts just received word yesterday that the Vatican has overturned the diocesan decision to close our church, and has ordered the church re-opened for worship. Essentially, the ruling states that the parish can be suppressed/merged, but the church building cannot be closed without "grave cause." Lawyers are studying the ruling before deciding what it means in practice, and how to proceed. This was recently ruled for some other churches in Allentown PA. It might represent a new stance taken by the Vatican in these matters.
