    3. Hello Vera, I've got a lot of practice with the handwriting in the Bialystok church book, because I had ancestors there. In fact, baptism 208 on the same page, baptised the same day in the same church as your relative, is a relative of mine (Augusta Emma, daughter of Adolph Gr"unke). ==== I read: 210. Friedrich Wilhelm, son of Carl Lamprecht, chimney sweep, known as Hoffmann, and of his wife Pauline geb Kraetzer. [born] Suprasl, the 25 November 1862, 5 in thr morning. [baptised] Suprasl, in the Protestant prayer-house on the 26th December, same year, by Pastor F K"untzel [godparents] 1. Franz Borowski, cloth-weaver, and 2. Frau Henriette Hoeppner ------- So, the most interesting fact is that the father, Carl Lamprecht, is also known as Carl Hoffmann. [Carl Lamprecht, genannt Hoffmann]. Is there a Carl Hofmann in your family? He may be the same person as Carl Lamprecht. When people have two different names it can be confusing - so this baptism might be an important find. If you look on the web, you will find lots of different reasons for men having two surnames, linked with "genannt". You can probably ignore most of the explanations - by far the most likely is that Carl's father was a Lamprecht, who died while Carl was still young; and his mother remarried, and his step-father was a Hoffmann. (Or, perhaps the other way around). Does any of this seem possible, or am I on a wild goose chase? I think I once looked at a marriage for this couple for you - what did it say about the groom? I must have an old e-mail somewhere about that. This is a free website but requires registration. The record is for the Evangelical Lutheran book for Bialystok for 1862 on pg. 26 at no. 210. > I am trying to determine whether my great-great-great-grandparents were the godparents of this child or the mother died and my great-great-great-grandparents adopted the child. The record does not mention the mother's name when all the birth records mention the mother's name. > Friedrich Wilhelm Lamprecht, son of Carl Lamprecht,*********************** Hoffman and wife Pauline born Kraetzer. > born in Suprasl on 25 November > I would appreciate any help in filling in the blanks. I am struggling to connect my ancestor to the other Lamprechts from the Bialystok area. > Thanks in advance! > Vera > > ------------------------------
