    1. [POLAND] Where do we apply for birth records

    3. Hi Thank you for your reply. Yes we are fairly sure the Braun family were from Warsaw City. Herman we believe was in timber. His son Jerzy whose birth we are looking for was born in 1911. We know Jerzy went to school in Warsaw city. I do have someone in Poland assisting us at this stage to try and find out more about Jerzy who ended up in England. He was a doctor. We now have some information on Herman. My main query is about the process of requesting certificates and if in fact they exist. I have searched Jewish Gen (Poland records ) and the cemetery records. Thank you. Will they exist for Warsaw Poland? Gay, Where you write really depends on whether you are talking about the city of Warsaw itself, or some town or shtetl that was in Warsaw Gubernia at some point, but might be in another area now. Have you searched JRI Poland at JewishGen.org for the births you are talking about? And do you know for sure if it was the city of Warsaw vs. just in Warszawa Gubernia? Or possibly in nearby Bialystok, for which I believe records would be ordered from a totally different Archive? There are no specifically Jewish records like that Catholics have in that area, as far as I know. I am preparing to place an order for records myself for ancestors who said they were from Warsaw, but really were from Makow in Lomza, and I will be ordering these records from the Pultusk Branch of the Warszawa Archive, in this case. But all these records were indexed by JRI Poland. Others on this list will have more experience dealing with the archives, with regards to ordering records that have not been indexed. I hope they will be able to provide you with better guidance about a query to the archives about a birth that recent, which is not likely to have been indexed yet because of Poland's 100 year privacy protection laws.

    3. Gay, I've not been too involved in your posts since I am not at home (I'm in Poland) near my reference books but I wanted to mention Marian Weiner's book and her web site: http://www.rtrfoundation.org book: _Routes to Roots_ which covers only Poland and lists exactly where you can find Jewish records for individual cities in Poland. Keep in mind that a large percentage of Warsaw was bombed out during WWII.
