    1. [POLAND] Manifest Lists Krasno, Russland
    2. Hi all, Once again I come with questions. I believe that I recently found the ship's manifest for my gggrandfather's entry into the US via the Hamburg Passenger Line in 1888. However, I'm having difficulty with pinpointing the transcribed location (Krasno, Russland). It is believed that they were from Galicia, but when I google map this location, the closest, current location I come up with is Krasno, Slovakia. Looking at maps of Galicia though, it doesn't appear that this location would have fallen into the Galicia area. I know names of places change so perhaps this name is in reference to somewhere else? Perhaps the Galicia knowledge is just incorrect. Does any have any information on this location or thoughts? Thanks! Mike

Russland means Russia, as I'm sure you know, so if your truly ancestors were from Galicia, this wouldn't correlate to the info you have, obviously. Off the top of my head, Krasno could be Krosno, which is a city in woj. podkarpackie, formerly in Galicia. Did you check the arrival manifest to see if the country of origin was the same what was written on the departure manifest? Maybe the clerk made a mistake and wrote down Russland (or ditto marks) instead of Galicia? -Marie
