    3. Hi Heidi, You are welcome. That is what the list is all about, helping each other out. I want to clarify something, though. One does NOT have to have the social security number of the decedant to order their Social Security Application, it simply costs a little more and there is a chance they may not be able to identify the correct decedant. But if you are concerned, you can always call the Social Security help line and they will check for you, whether the information you plan on using to order is adequate to identify the correct person. What is more of an issue for some folks is if the decedant is not listed on the Social Security Death Index.
