I found an Alien File for Valeria Gajtkowski on www.archives.gov. She was born on 12/08/1883 in Poland. Maybe you could e-mail Elizabeth.Burnes at nara.gov. She could look at the file and tell you where she was born. Maybe she is a cousin. Valeria's file info is A5840082/085-09-0706/Box 3. You would need to know some details on Valentine to find him in Russian archives- birthdate, birthplace, parents name and place of service. Russian military archives is annoying. I had all that information, plus an address, for my grandfather's service in WWII and I still couldn't get information. Thank you much, Joe and others who made comment. I have been able to find some other details about Mr. Zabinski from Milwaukee book sources, but all of this was begun by a query made by a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Rock Springs, WY. One of Zabinski's paintings (c. 1897) titled "Ascension" is displayed there, coming to them after the Finnish Lutheran Church in town disbanded. It seems his artistic reach reached across many miles, and his work is still appreciated today. I agree that his moving tribute should be added to his burial information so others might know of his significance. The information was sent to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee site www.cemeteries.org and I hope the details will be posted soon.
