Barb, I am still in the process of mapping out our routes but I do know we aren't going near Oblekon on this trip. Sorry. I didn't mention Polish Genius to take members from Poland Roots so please stay subscribed to this list. Lots of people are on more than one list depending on their own needs. Today, August 20, happens to be the 11 anniversary of Polish Genius! Good day to join. Barb, There are often photos that can be found online. Search Oblekon for images in whatever search engine you use. Sometimes photos that are not the village you are looking for will also come up in a search, so you have to look closely to see how they are labeled. In this first link it looks like all 62 photos are labeled Oblekon. The good thing is that it appears that there is only one village named Oblekoń in Poland (at least only one came up on Google maps), so you could be sure it is the village you are looking for. http://en.eholiday.pl/info-oblekon-29497-photo-66507.html http://www.oblekon.cba.pl/historia.php ________________________________ From: "BarbyDZ@aol.com" <BarbyDZ@aol.com> To: poland-roots@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, August 20, 2012 11:48 AM Subject: Re: [POLAND] Gas in Poland Debbie, 1st sorry to all for the erroneous email. sometimes when I hit reply, it just sends the email before I have a chance to say anything. No need to sell the kids. Firstly, the distances in Poland are way shorter than in the US - so you do not drive hundreds or thousands of miles to reach your destinations -ergo you don't need as much gas. Secondly, the cars, and their engines, are much smaller and much more efficient - so the mileage per car is much better. I know this web site was mentioned about a year ago and even though it is still in Beta testing, some of you may find some interesting items. Thanks to Anna on Polish Genius for reminding me about it. I haven't looked at everything but some of the titles of the scanned books are very interesting. Make sure to scroll all the way down. Besides a few address directory books for some Polish cities there are also directories for Austria, Czech & Slovak, France, Galicia, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, Pomerania, Posen (Poznań), Silesia, and more. http://genealogyindexer.org/directories/ Debbie
Just updated my 2012-2013 Genealogy Lectures (it's a .pdf). I am happy to send it to any genealogical or historical society planning a single lecture or a full day workshop. Keep in mind it can be held at your location or at PARI, located on the campus of Orchard Lake Schools in Michigan. Topics are sorted for General Audiences, Catholics, Polonia/ Poland, and Societies. Hello all, I recently learned about a very useful website for those who have tested with FamilyTreeDNA or 23andme for DNA genealogy. DNA test results can be uploaded to http://www.gedmatch.com to see whether you can find more matches. The website is free and provides easy directions for uploading information and gedcom files. I only tested with FamilyTreeDNA but my information is being matched against 23andme customers on Gedmatch. Maybe I have some distant cousins on here. I have a lot of ancestry from current day Poland. Vera Find Lost Russian & Ukrainian Family http://lostrussianfamily.wordpress.com/
I'm looking to trace my grandmother in Poland. This is some information I know about her: First name: Yadwiga or Yanina, Jadwiga, Janina, Jana. Surname: Pawlowich or Pawlowicz, Pawlowska. (Powlowich, Powlowicz, Powlowska). Date of birth: 09.07.1885 - Warszawa, Poland. She belonged to the Catholic Church. My sister Elena is planning to go to Poland in October 2012 with a group of people from her Catholic Church. Unfortunately she will be able to stay in Warszawa for only a very short time. I would appreciate it if somebody could give me any advice about where she can start to investigate information about our grandmother. How and where can she display our grandmother and her sibling's picture? Thank you, for all your assistance. Regards, Irina Shuiskaya.
Hello Harriet! Jasienczyk is the base surname (the singular nominative case), without any endings on it. There's no way to tell whether Jashinski in the US is the same family or not, the Polish spelling for that name would be Jaszynski or maybe Jasienski, with an accent over the "n". People may have changed the name over here, or maybe it's a different family. Joe > Archive.
