Hi Joe, In this case we distinguish 'nazwisko niewiadomy/niewiadoma' according to gender. The ending -ego is masculine and the ending -ej is the feminine counterpart. The entry does have correct grammar and refers to an unknown 'female' surname. Gay, I've not been too involved in your posts since I am not at home (I'm in Poland) near my reference books but I wanted to mention Marian Weiner's book and her web site: http://www.rtrfoundation.org book: _Routes to Roots_ which covers only Poland and lists exactly where you can find Jewish records for individual cities in Poland. Keep in mind that a large percentage of Warsaw was bombed out during WWII. About 12 years ago I visited the helpful LDS computer room about 45 minutes South of Otaki.We selected some films and I found one of my aunt's birth entry,but nothing more. After this interval I should try again. At 95 I am "Almost past my use-by date"! Dad was a Lutheran, born in 1860. Arthur.

Jim, The best hotel in the area is the Hotel Bona. It does not have an elevator though. I just stayed there a week ago. I'm still in Poland. I visited the archives you mentioned and things have changed! You can now photograph your own records (only yours) and there is no charge. The director speaks English as well. Make sure you have the new location. It's in a stand-alone building with parking! Hi Arthur, A cousin of mine has family from Guben [and I have passed through the (now border) town]. I don't think she still has the (s?)she was using on loan, alas, but I will ask. She was looking at Evangelical (Lutheran) births in the 1860s, and a marriage. Would be nice if you were lucky and someone had the information to share with you. It can be hard work looking through these films. I'm pleased to hear that you interested in research; I think I will be burnt out way before I reach 95!! Bron.
