I did the rolling and knotting and he did the frying. He was a chef. Haven't made them since he died. Okay here is another good question about Cruschiki what rum should I use, Bacardi or is there something better tasting and flavorful for the tasty treats. I know my Babci, being part Irish, she used to throw in a shot of Bailey's Irish Cream just for flavor. But as I seen in the recipes, that must have been her choice, as its not normally made this way. Ron How hot do you heat the oil ? Hi Ron, Here is a good site that explains the Chrusciki cookie and the cooking process. I do remember them referred to as Bow Ties but I always loved the sound of the word. My aunt made them for every Easter and Christmas and we ate them as fast as potato chips. I can't imagine how many days she spent making these. I would bet that instead of shortening they may have been fried in lard in those days. If you type "Chrusciki" in google you will get several variations on the recipe. If anyone is considering attending the next UPGS conference (April 2010), I'd highly recommend it! I had a great time and learned a great deal. Salt Lake City is certainly beautiful, with snow capped mountains practically surrounding the city. And the library is just mind-boggling. Aisles and aisles of drawers containing microfilm. The aisles were probably the same length as my house! The lectures were informative, and even the more experienced researchers could learn something new. Orvill Paller (Collections Management Specialist for Poland) explained where filming/digitizing is currently taking place in Poland. It was sad to hear that no work is currently taking place in the areas once in Galicia. Of course, meeting Ceil Jensen is always a pleasure. She's just amazing. She did a tremendous job coordinating the conference! I also met fellow list members Mike Stupinski and Jim Tye, whom I was so pleased to meet for the first time. So nice to put faces to the names. Not to mention that I was in heaven being able to discuss genealogy with other people without seeing that glazed look enter their eyes after the first minute or two. LOL Since my time was spent either in seminars or consulting with others, I got very little research done myself. However, during that time, my wonderful husband gave up his time to copy about 350 images of BMDs from the Jasienica (Mazowiecka) parish onto a flash drive, so I've been busy extracting the pertinent info from these images. I got all excited to see that an ancestor was from Koenigshuld only to find that amongst towns called Biel, Chmielewo, Nieskorze, and Kalinowo was a town called Koenigshuld! And one called Lowizenau. Shoot! I thought I'd found where they were from before they'd settled in that area of Poland. I'll have to rent the film and look at it a little more closely to see if I can find any clues to what happened to these towns. They're not in the Slownik Geograficzny and these two towns were referenced in records from 1819/1820. Nothing like a little mystery to sidetrack my research! Regards, Marie

My mother was from Straszydle in Rzeszow, and my dad was from Lubenia in Rzeszow. Were these cities part of Galicia? I'm not sure where the boundaries of Galicia were. I do know that both of them were under Austrian rule. As a side question, and not trying to offend anybody, my father used the term Tromba Austryjacka, which I think was derogatory. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
Thanks, Debbie. I think there's at least one Catholic Church in the village. I just didn't know if this was part of Rzeszow. Jane, Lubenia is in Rzeszo~w powiat so it would have been in the old woj. of Rzeszo~w. You'll need to find the parish location for Lubenia though it's possible the parish was in this village. http://mapa.szukacz.pl/?&n=233646&e=709580&z=16m&m=Lubenia&t=&pp=developer Debbie Jane wrote: > Does anyone know if Lubenia is located in Rzeszow? Hi, Could someone please tell me if there is another way to spell the name Balicki. I'm sure in Polish it must be pronounced another way. I am trying to find some information and I have checked all that spelling and came up with nothing of interest for the person who asked me to check. I'm thinking that the person who took the census wrote it the way it was pronounced. Does that make sense? Thanks, Barbara
Does anyone know if Lubenia is located in Rzeszow? Or if it is, was it always there? This is where my father comes from and I'd like to search records at the local church.
