Sometimes, they made themselves younger if a young woman, for obvious reasons on the Cit papers, or older, if a young man to get a job. Then, the thought on SS was to collect SS. My uncle had to wait extra years before he could collect, because he had made himself younger at the dock. Also, in Europe, DOBs were not important. My gm was born "during Chanukah", no year! The women in my family are not listed on the SSDI. They were home during the 1930's to 60s. 1) Would they probably have had to have SS numbers, & therefore had to fill out SS-5, application for app with gen info on them. If they died, like my Mom, before age 62, is it likely, that they would have a number and not be on the SSDI? If I send to the SS for the SS-5, without the SS #, Will SS look it up? How much do I pay? Does it cost even if there is no number for the person? How long would it take? I can't access any web sites now. ISP problems.
I suggest you try NARA or FHC. They may have it on film. Hi In response to Dubeys99@aol.com regarding the names Kowalczyk and Kaledek. The Parish records for Chorzele which have been microfilmed by the Mormons covers the years 1695-1900 on numerous film rolls. The names Kaledek (proper spelling from personal examination of these films) and Kowalczyk are prominent in the Chorzele records and also Annette stated in the records for Baranowo, south east of Chorzele. The Chorzele records are very detailed and complete. Please let me know if I can assist further. Does this mean that he was previously on full active duty with the army? or was he merely tranferring from an active reserve to an inactive reserve? Tina, You're welcome. Nice to know I'm not the only one who saves things to read "later." Debbie Tina Ellis wrote: > I save letters that I know I will read when I have time. I save letters that I know I will read when I have time. Thank you so much for posting this ... two years ago. Good story. I have a special FB page for my Polish families from all over the world. Several branches of our tree ended up in Chicago. Some stayed and some have moved to other states. Thank you again ... Debbie. You may not realize this but posters designed and printed in Poland are much sought after and are highly regarded in the poster collector world. The Polish Genealogical Society of America (in Chicago) recently received a generous gift of vintage Polish advertising posters from the collection of a serious collector. As advertising posters, they were displayed in public areas on billboards, kiosks, walls, fences. . . any place with an open surface in clear view of the general public. Dating from 1938 to 1985, the gift covers a range of themes including opera, travel, requests to help Poles, and Polish and American movies that represent the artistic styles and cultural moods of Poland from pre-war independence through phases of the Communist period. Being advertising posters, only a fraction of those produced survived. The PGSA has decided to make these posters available through a silent auction, fund-raising event. Each winning bidder will enjoy a beautiful example of Polish art and history while assisting the Society in its mission to provide the highest level of research services to its members. The auction starts today and will end September 15, 2018 during the annual PGSA conference. To see the posters, their descriptions and to bid go to: http://tinyurl.com/y8py5gez BTW if you see the poster "Flip i Flap" this was the term used when referring to Laurel & Hardy, the Three Stooges and so on. Good luck! Debbie
