I think he remembers the > ship he came > over on. > > Thanks :) Dave > While Ellis Island was no longer in use at the time your father immigrated in 1949, NARA's web site indicates that they have microfilmed records for ship arrivals in New York City through 1957. Here's the link to the information about these: http://www.archives.gov/research_room/genealogy/immigrant_arrivals/new_york_port.html If he came through another port, you can read through the NARA web site to see what years were microfilmed for a particular port of entry. The problem is that if he left Poland from Torun, the address he lived at in Torun would be on the record, not the address where he was born in Poznan. Some of the parish records for Poznan actually go into the 1920-1940 era. Your father's baptismal record might actually be on a film just sitting there and waiting for you! Without any other means of finding the family, I'd start going through those films. Look at the most recent first (there's one with records up through 1948) and work your through the others by date. There appear to be 15 parishes. At $3.50 each to rent a film at a FHC, if you don't find them until you get to the last film the most you would spend is $52.50. Most of us have spent a multiple of that doing our research! You might get lucky and find them sooner. Good luck, Cynthia PGSA Chicago __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
