You should also give us as much information about your family as you know. For example, their names, dates of birth/death, where they came from, where they lived in the U.S., etc. If you are just starting your research, then I have a few suggestions to get you started. There are many genealogy sites on the web that give advice on genealogical research. This list is for those researching in a particular area of Poland, and it sounds like your research is going to be in Czech-Slovak areas. However, the basics of genealogy research are the same regardless of nationality. This is a link to the getting started suggestions of the PGSA: http://www.pgsa.org/DearResearcher.htm. Another web site with a lot of useful information is Cindi's List: http://www.cyndislist.com. Because I'm focused on Polish genealogy, I recommend that new researchers either purchase or borrow from a library a book titled Polish Roots written by Rosemary Chorzempa. Its available from any major bookstore. Join a genealogy society. It is good to join one that is local, even if it is not a specific ethnic organization, so you can attend meetings where you can ask questions and learn from others. The PGSA is located in Chicago, but has 2,000 members worldwide, so although the meetings and annual conference are in Chicago, the PGSA tries to provide research tools and information that can be available to all of our members through the web site and the quarterly magazine, Rodziny. There is a Czech-Slovak society in Chicago: http://www.csagsi.org/. I hope this helps. Good luck in your research! Cynthia PGSA Chicago __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
