    1. Re: Town of Mischke (formerly in Germany)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hdC.2ACI/2007.1 Message Board Post: > It is my understanding that Mischke, Germany is now Mniszki, Poland (NE of Wielen). The ONLY proper answer is MAYBE, because there had been SEVERAL places with that name in Germany, and all are in Poland now. "Rademachers Deutsch-Österreichisches Ortsbuch 1871-1945" at URL [http://www.literad.de/geschichte/ortsbuch39.html] knows TWO: (a) Mischke, County Netzekreis, Pommerania (b) Mischke, County Schwetz, Westprussia The Canadian website Kartenmeister [http://www.kartenmeister.com/] knows of FIVE locations formerly called Mischke and now inside Poland: 1) Mischke, County of Schwetz, Westprussia province 2) Mischke, County of Graudenz, Westprussia province 3) Mischke, County of Neutomischel, Posen province 4) Mischke, County of Filehne, Posen province 5) Mischke, County of Konitz, Westprussia province > After a couple of hours of researching on the internet, I think that I have things right, A couple of hours for what you could have resolved in a couple of minutes? Seems like you need to bookmark these two: (1) http://www.literad.de/geschichte/ortsbuch39.html (2) http://www.kartenmeister.com/ You need to do some surname centered search on the internet now, and hopefully gain some idea about the area where your Fruhners came from. On this screen, you will find a search function. Type in FRUHNER, and besides your search, another search dating from the year 2000 will come up. And if your OSCAR FRUHNER actually had the full name of ALFRED OSCAR FRUHNER and his wife was a THERESA M BAHR, then you should be extremely interested in that other Fruhner posting >>>> http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.fruhner Whatever. I find it amazing that the genealogy boards of rootsweb and ancestry have just TWO queries for Fruhner, and seemingly for the same person. Search at http://pommernkontakte.de/e/ yieleded nothing for Fruhner Search at http://db.genealogy.net/ yielded nothing for Fruhner Search at http://foko.genealogy.net/ yielded 1 Fruhner, but in Bremen (other end of the country) Search at http://www.google.de yielded 642 hits for Fruhner The results of googling supports the impression left by the FoKo result: the Fruhner name appears to be prevalent in the west of Germany, not in the East, and thus not in territories that are under Polish rule since 1945 .... but wait ... I see quite a few of those Fruhner hits relating to Berlin, and BERLIN NOW could very well mean that those people (or their ancestors) had lived FURTHER EAST BEFORE 1945 [Poland is just about 40 miles east of the city of Berlin]. Whatever. If I were in your shoes, I would google for Fruhner, and then peek at each website. There should be some contact information on each of them. Ask by email, if those living Fruhners have a clue, where their name came from... And maybe, some will respond "Mischke". Good luck !! And if that user-id ww9a in an old email of yours (posted with a Wesnitzer query) relates to what I think it may relate to, then: 55 & 73, too ....... dahdidah :)
