I am relatively new to this list. I am trying to trace the route my grandfather took to reach Canada. My grandfather, Mikolaij Swiderski, was born 1876 to Josef Swider and Sofia Broda. We know he married and applied for a homestead in the then NorthWestTerritory in 1905. It is thought that when he left Straszkow,parish of Koscielec, near city of Kolo, he made his way to the Chicago area and sometime later went to NWT on a Harvest Excursion. I would like to know: 1. The year he came to the US 2. What brought him to Chicago. 3.In which newspapers the Canadian govt advertised the harvest excursions 4. Are there any Swiders or friends of Swiders on this list who would correspond with me. I have searched the Ellis Island site and he is not there. I have a feeling that he had family/friends in Chicago area that drew him to that area. I look forward to any responses to this query. eleanor
